Educational Tours
August Wilson Center Educational Tours are focused on serving groups of students (grades K-12) from schools, community organizations and parent and/or teacher associations. They generally last for four hours -- a typical tour could go from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Artists and Exhibitions you will see:
- Charles "Teenie" Harris photographs of Hill District life 1935 to 1955
- Women of a New Tribe photography by Jerry Taliaferro, showcasing Pittsburgh women of influence in the arts and beyond
- Thaddeus Mosley, self taught nationally renowned Wood Sculptor
- Pittsburgh Reclaim, Renew, Remix -- an interactive multimedia history exhibit
- August Wilson Center's Environmental Consciousness - Green Buildings

Tour Features:
- A walk-through of the entire facility. Detailed facts sheets are available to help enhance the learning experience of students. Fact shets are electronically available prior to all tours.
- To enhance specific learning objectives, we have outstanding African drumming and dance performers that we integrate into our tours.
- All tours have some element of art activity associated with it, like working with clay to recreate a Mosley sculpture, building models with recycled materials, using math to create a museum layout for photographs and paintings, writing poetry and reading and acting out a scene from one of August Wilson's plays.
- Our Education Center is equipped to show movies with laptops available for further research into subject matters pertinent to the group of students.
Please note that Center's Educational Tours do not include lunch. However, we do have a Cafe space where your group can eat lunches brought to the facility.
Tours are priced at $7 a student. Adults attending as Chaperones are free.
Teachers and administrators will soon be able to download exciting curricula that outline the tours we have created specifically to support PSSA preparation.
