The August Wilson Center Dance Academy, under the direction of Greer Reed, founding artistic director of the August Wilson Dance Ensemble, is now offering a variety of dance classes. Designed for everyone from youngsters to adults, classes are on Saturdays from January 28 - April 21.

FIRST CREATIVE STEPS: AGE 3
The young dancer begins to explore and expand motor skills such as running, jumping and hopping. Time, space, and energy are introduced through various creative activities.

INTRO TO BALLET: AGES 4 - 5
Learn the basic necessary tools needed to dance through this classical form. Children will be introduced to the technical foundation of dance

CREATIVE MOVEMENT: AGE 6 - 7
Through storytelling of our history the imagination begins to soar through movement and personal expression. Creative problem solving is introduced.
Time: 10:30 - 11:15 am

AFRICAN DANCE WORKSHOP: AGES 8 - 12
Participants will experience authentic African drums, dance and culture through this unique class. The dancer will explore the many traditions of African dance and history through discussion, video and demonstrations.

TRADITIONAL AFRICAN DANCE: AGES 13 - ADULT
Participants immerse themselves in the culture of authentic African dance and explore traditional styles and native movements.
Time: 12:30 - 1:30pm
Price: 12 sessions, $160

MODERN: AGES 13 - ADULT
Dancers gain core stability and increase mobility and flexibility.
Time: 1:30 - 2:30pm
Price: 12 sessions, $160

HIP HOP: AGES 13 - ADULT
Get in tune with all the latest Hip Hop moves! From Krumping to Poplocking, learn the many styles and history of this everchanging dance style.
Time: 2:30 - 3:30pm
Price: 12 sessions, $160

SALSA: AGES 13 - ADULT
The two most popular forms of Latin couple dancing heat up this lively and energetic social dance class. Please bring soft-soled shoes used for indoor purposes only.
Time: 3:30 - 5:00pm
Price: 6 sessions, $170, $195/couple
