CHALLENGE GRANTS

The August Wilson Center has received three challenge grants to help us secure our Capital Campaign goal, as well as to stimulate financial support from the community.

Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant
The August Wilson Center has successfully raised the necessary funds to qualify our $1.2 million Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant goal. In order for the Center to receive the grant, all funding to cover the total cost of constructing the building must be received or committed.
One in a Million Challenge Grant
The One in a Million Challenge Grant was established by Board and Steering Committee Members Nancy and Milton Washington to encourage local African American support for the August Wilson Center. The challenge grant will match $1 for every $2 raised from the local African American community. The challenge goal is to raise a total of $1 million.
The Heinz Endowments Challenge Grant
The Heinz Endowments has awarded the August Wilson Center with two grants totaling $5.5 million in support of our Capital Campaign. $750,000 of the grant will be released to the August Wilson Center once African American giving reaches $2 million. To date, more than $1.6 million has been raised from the African American community.
